Interesting and challenging roles in a unique working environment

Volunteers support the palaces in many different ways, from helping to welcome our visitors to supporting our learning and engagement team with family learning activities.

It all starts here - to find out what roles we have available or to register your interest in future opportunities, email or write to us.

We look forward to hearing from you!

We value our volunteers

Our aim is to help everyone explore the story of how monarchs and people have shaped society, in some of the greatest palaces ever built.

Volunteers provide us with an immeasurable amount of support in achieving this aim, in so many ways, from sharing stories with visitors to helping out behind the scenes.

Our volunteers are a vital link for us

We believe our volunteers provide an important and invaluable link between the historic buildings in our care, our visitors, and the local community.

Volunteers complement and support the work of our staff, developing new talents for themselves. This enables us to further enrich and enhance the visitor experience and to undertake projects that we would not normally be able to carry out.

Why volunteer with us?

Volunteering gives you the opportunity to discover more about our palaces, meet new friends, see behind the scenes, and develop your interpersonal skills by engaging with visitors from all over the world.

Whatever your interests, volunteering can expand your horizons, open up new possibilities and uncover hidden interests and talents.

What we offer:

  • Hear from the experts about our upcoming exhibitions and meet volunteers across all our palaces at our bi-annual volunteer seminars
  • Attend regular feedback meetings with your volunteer coordinator to receive helpful updates
  • Have your travel expenses reimbursed (up to a capped limit) so that you can continue to provide much needed support
